Underwater photo series brings awareness to ghost nets

Underwater photographer Jose Cano and performance artist Cristine Beggs collaborate to bring awareness to the problem of ghost nets. The pair worked together to produce underwater images that put Beggs and other models in uncomfortable looking situations with nets to represent the plague of ghost nets on ocean wildlife. The pair hopes that through these images change can be made.

The images were shot in Cano’s underwater studio at his home in New Zealand.

As such, the idea of this shoot was to use people to highlight the struggle, pain, and resignation that these nets cause in the ocean - whether tangling life or being ingested. To create emotionally-evocative, eerie yet awe-inspiring, underwater photos to bring mass attention to this issue, and its solutions.
