A new open-access paper has shown that tiger sharks’ (Galeocerdo cuvier) migratory patterns are being affected by rising ocean temperatures. The study was carried out by the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science and uses a variety of satellite tracking and tag recapture techniques to show that the animals have shifted their migration 250 miles (400 km) polewards.
A new paper published in the frontiers in Marine Science journal has investigated the relationship between tiger shark (Galeocerdo cuvier) social behavior and baited shark feeds. Using satellite tag data and acoustic telemetry, researchers were able to analyze the social data of the sharks that visit Tiger Beach, off Grand Bahama.
A new paper (PDF) in the Royal Society Open Science journal has analyzed the results of testing the DNA of 112 tiger shark (Galeocerdo cuvier) pups from 4 pregnant females that had been caught off Australia. Photographer and Wetpixel member Alan C Egan has written a short article, accompanied by his images, about tiger shark diving at Jupiter, Florida. The presence of these sharks has only relatively recently been documented, and the reasons for their presence are still largely unknown. They represent a unique photographic subject for divers in Florida.
The journal Scientific Reports has published a paper that documents tiger shark’s (Galeocerdo cuvier) movements over na extended period. Individual animals were shown to make annual, repeated journeys of over 7,500 km in the northwest Atlantic, from Caribbean coral reefs to “high latitude ocean areas” as far north as Connecticut.

The trip, based in Freeport, Grand Bahama, runs from 03 to 10 January 2015, and will feature 5 days of diving and photographing the amazing population of tiger sharks (Galeocerdo cuvier) which are resident at Tiger Beach at this time of year. The trip is land based, and we will be hosted by Epic Diving with the trip leader being Wetpixel Editor, Adam Hanlon.
