The company bought the suite from Google in 2017 and has rewritten the code to allow the apps to be fully compatible with Adobe CC and newer operating systems. The Nik Collection 2018 consists of the same seven apps as the original collection.

DxO acquires the Nik Collection

DxO has purchased the Nik Collection assets from Google. The new owner plans to continue to offer the existing Nik Collection as free plugins, but will be developing new versions for release in mid-2018. The company has already incorporated Nik’s U Point technology into their new PhotoLab (previously DxO OpticsPro) RAW conversion software. The existing Nik Collection can be downloaded after supplying an email address.

Google ceases support of Nik Plugins Photo

Google ceases support of Nik Plugins

In a banner on the Nik Collection site, owner Google has announced that it will be no longer be updating or adding new features to the Nik plugins. It is currently compatible with OS X 10.10, Windows Vista, 7 and 8, and Photoshop through to CC 2015, but as operating systems update, it is likely that the plugins will cease to work in the future.

Google offers Nik Collection plug-ins for free

Google has announced that from today, its Nik Collection of desktop image processing plug-ins is now available to download for free. It was previously a paid-for product. The suite consists of Analog Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro, Viveza, HDR Efex Pro, Sharpener Pro and Dfine. If you have purchased the Nik Collection in 2016, Google will process a full refund in due course.
