The President of the Seychelles, Danny Faure, has described the oceans as “the beating blue heart of our planet.” He made the comment during a live broadcast from a submersible at 124 meters (406ft) of depth beneath the Indian Ocean. He went on to say that it was “under threat like never before.”

“We have managed to seriously impact this environment through climate change. I can see the incredible wildlife that needs protection. Over the years we have created these problems, we must solve them and we must solve them together.”

The BBC reports that the President was taking part in an expedition being run by Nekton that aims to create public support for Seychelles to protect 30% of its national waters by 2020.
