New species of goby discovered

Not content with their discovery of the voracious appetites of ctenophores, the BlennyWatcher team has announced the discovery of what is probably a new species of goby, complete with images and video of it. Graham Abbott of Diving4Images had shared an image of a goby taken in Ambon that he didn’t recognise with Anna DeLoach just before she was due to depart on a trip with a group to the area. The group found many of the fish living among Lacy Bryozoa (possibly Triphyllozoon inornatum) in Ambon harbor. In addition, they found “a snail, a crab and a snapping shrimp, all living in the bryozoan colonies and all sporting a spotted pattern that presumably helps camouflage these cryptic creatures.

Images of the goby have been sent to Dr. Gerry Allen for identification, and he has indicated that it is probably an undescribed species and possibly a new genus as well.
